Scout Sunday Observed at Good Samaritan Church, Orange Park -
This past Sunday, February 5th 2006, Cub
Scouts from Pack 653 participated in observance of Scout Sunday at Good
Samaritan Episcopal Church, in Orange Park, Florida. Sunday worship
services were presided over by the Reverend Father Hall Hunt, who is also
the Executive Officer for both Troop 653 and Pack 653. The following Scouts
were in attendance: Hunter B, Matthew T, James R, Thomas R. Scouters in
attendance included: Jeff Richardson, Bryon Barber, Lisa Barber, Ron Tucker,
and Father Hall Hunt.
The Scouts showed their reverence by being greeters
before the start of the service, passing the offering plates, preparing the
service for communion, and shaking hands after the service. “The communion
‘wafer’ bread tasted like Styrofoam,” according to James R. After the
service, the participants posed for a photo with Father Hunt.
After the service, a family who was from the Middle
East approached the Scouts. A lady introduced her father, who couldn’t
speak much English, but wanted the boys to know that he was a Cub Scout many
years ago, in Jerusalem. The lady told the boys how her father traveled on
foot as a Scout, from Jerusalem to Egypt. The trek took him fifteen days,
and fifteen nights. Though he did not speak much English, he smiled
proudly, enthusiastically moving his forearm across his head as if to wipe
his brow. The boys all laughed a little, shook his hand and smiled. He was
very proud of his accomplishment and very glad to see fellow Scouts
attending church service.
Scout Sunday will also be observed this coming Sunday,
February 12th, for those who did not observe it last Sunday.
Happy Birthday, Boy Scouts!
