Training Course Descriptions:

Youth Protection Training – This training is can be taken online. The Boy Scouts of America has adopted a comprehensive set of policies and procedures to help ensure that Scouting continues to be safe for all participants. Leaders will get a thorough review of BSA Youth Protection policies in addition to developing an increased awareness of Youth Protection issues.

Fast Start Training – This is the first step in the training continuum. The training is taken online at your own pace. It provides all the information and resources for new leaders to conduct their first meeting along with guidance for the meetings that follow.

This is Scouting – This is the first part of Basic Leader Training. This 90-minute introductory session highlights the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting and provides new leaders with a look at the resources available to them.

Cub Scout Leader Position Specifics – New Leaders are exposed to both the fun of Cub Scouting and the basic Cub Scout leader skills they need to run high-quality den, pack, and committee meetings and train pack trainers to perform their critically important duties. The training consists of three parts. The first part is a 45-minute session teaching about the Cub Scouting organization and the essential elements of the Cub Scout Program. The second 45-minute session shows how to have fun in the pack and den. The third part is an hour-and-a-half specific training for each position in Cub Scouts.

Scoutmaster Leader Specifics – This full day course is designed to teach troop operations. Through hands-on experiential learning, this will enable Scoutmasters to better deliver the promise in support of the troop, committee members, and Scouts.

Venture Leader Specifics – This 5-hour course explains Venturing to all adults new to Venturing. There are five sessions: Here's Venturing, Understanding and Protecting Youth, Leadership and Organization, Awards and Recognition, and Resources and Program Planning.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) – This day and a half course provides leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills in The Boy Scout Handbook which focuses on building confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) – This one-day training introduces leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. Leaders will understand the focus of the Cub Scout-level outdoor program, gain skills needed to plan and carry out Cub Scout-level overnight activities, and find out resources available. At least one adult (two or more is recommended) on a pack overnighter must have completed BALOO training.

Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders (OWL) – This day and a half course is designed specifically for Webelos den leaders and their assistants, the Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders course teaches outdoor-related skills through demonstration and hands-on practice. Webelos den leaders should attend this training before conducting Webelos overnight camping with the boys and parents of the den. In addition to covering basic camping skills, this training features planning campouts and finding resources.

** Resolution #2008-0429-A adopted on April 29, 2008 by the Executive Board of the North Florida Council, Inc. to establish requirement for top leader trained states, “that each key leader of every traditional Scouting unit is required to complete training courses in order to be classified as trained for their assigned position.  Key leaders of traditional units shall be defined as Cubmaster for Cub Scout Packs, Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troops and Venture Advisor for Venture Crews. This policy requirement will be effective beginning with all traditional Scouting units that are due to re-charter in December of 2008, as well as any new chartered unit in the Council beginning January 1, 2009.
