Scouts Needed for Ceremonies at Metropolitan Park
The NFC has two (2) Healing Field ceremonies that they would
like the Boy Scouts to participate in and lead in the Pledge of
Allegiance.
The first ceremony is Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 12 pm at
Metropolitan Park, downtown Jacksonville, honoring fallen
police, fire and military and will last about an hour.
The second ceremony is Saturday, July 18th beginning at 1:30
honoring children who have died from child abuse and will also
last about an hour, also at Metropolitan Park.
The pledge will be done at the beginning of the ceremony and
then the scouts can leave the stage.
Please contact Lawrence Norman at
lawerence.norman@scouting.org or (904) 388-0591 for more
information and if you are interested in participating.

Dear Black Creek
Scouters,
Our District
Executive over the past three years, Scott Wenzel,
has decided to retire effective July 1st after over
8 years with the Boy Scouts, which followed a full
career in the U.S. Marine Corps. Scott has been
instrumental in bringing new energy to many of our
Black Creek programs through a period that has seen
Black Creek grow well beyond other North Florida
districts and national trends. We owe Scott our
gratitude for his service to the youth of our
district, but in talking to him, the only gratitude
he feels is due is to our volunteers who find the
time to bring the programs to life, raise funds to
support the work we do and help parents understand
scouting to increase membership and fill our ranks.
Scott's replacement as
District Executive has not been named, but I am
working with Council to ensure we have a smooth and
short transition. Until a replacement is named,
Kelvin Williams at Council will be our acting DE.
His contact information is on the North Florida
Council home page and his email is
kelvin.williams@scouting.org
Thanks for all you
do!
YIS

District Chairman

Black Creek District has been
approached by Clay Today to assist in constructing and installing
benches at the new Frisbee golf course under construction at Ronnie Van
Zant Memorial Park.
Sixteen (16) additional benches will
be required for the remaining holes. Scouts needing Eagle Projects for
completion of their road to Eagle may submit their requests to Mr. Bill
Stevens (264-4183 starpapa@aol.com)
for review and approval.
This project could be performed by
two (2) Scouts needing an Eagle Project. Bench design will be available
from Mr. Bob Armstrong, Timucuan Advisor to OA. Some funding support
will be available. |

Twenty-four Scouters
from three different NFC districts completed BSA BALOO
training Saturday. From the districts of Marion, Great
Muscogee and Black Creek, the participants gathered upon
the grounds of St Luke’s Catholic Church in Middleburg
for a beautiful sunny day of learning. They enjoyed
making new friends and learned the basics, and a few
tricks on family-based, Cub Scout camping. Breakfast
AND lunch were provided courtesy of Pack 425. Trainers
Kimberly Powell, Jeff Richardson, Ron Burkhart and “Camp
Cookie” Carl Marfut ensured the event was factual, fun,
and flavorful. The participants’ camping experience
varied – some had camped since they were Cub Scouts
themselves -- while others had not yet camped. Yet
everyone walked away with a refreshed perspective on
BSA’s Camping Policies, safety rules, campout program
planning, and learned a few camping “tricks” to take
back to their own Packs. Enjoy camping, everyone, and
remember the Cub Scout Motto: Do Your Best!

Tour Permits
Unit leaders are now able to
submit local and national tour permits electronically. This new
system takes just four easy steps, and it will save the
transportation and training information, so leaders can easily
recall it for future permit applications.
All registered unit leaders
will have access to Tour Permits from MyScouting, accessed on
www.scouting.org.
Remember- your unit must have at least one leader trained in
"Severe Weather Training" - BEFORE you can apply for your tour
permit.
